1.YG Entertainment qualifies to enter KOSDAQ [NEWS]

As one of the top three entertainment companies in Korea, YG Entertainment has passed screening to go public on the KOSDAQ (Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotations), a Korean stock market exchange equivalent of America’s NASDAQ. YG will be the 2nd entertainment company to qualify to be listed on the stock market, following SM Entertainment.

YG Entertainment passed the Stock Exchange Commission’s screening to go public on the KOSDAQ. The stock price is anticipated to be set around 24,600~28,800 WON (around $22 – $26 USD with a face value of 500 WON). Around 35 billion won (around $33 million USD) will be up for trade on the initial public offering.

For those of you with a keen memory, YG failed their initial screening process to be listed on the KOSDAQ in the 4th quarter of last year and applied for the process once again in under a year, successfully qualifying this go around with risen share prices.

With 2NE1 and Big Bang sweeping the charts and topping album sales, along with the total views of all YG related videos on Youtube hitting over 400 million (as of May 6th), YG Entertainment’s explosive sensation overseas was a key factor in their success.

Having top idols groups such as Big Bang and 2NE1, along with, Se7en, Psy, Gummy, and many other star musicians, YG Entertainment is a blue chip company as their sales in 2010 is estimated to be around 44.8 billion won (around $44 million USD), with 10 billion won (around $10 million USD) being net profit.

YG Entertainment’s future seems smooth, as well. Starting this year, Big Bang and 2NE1 will be expanding from the Korean scene to Japan and the U.S., leading the Hallyu wave. YG will also be breaking their operating system of producing only few elite trainees and expand their horizon as they have signed contracts with Kang Seung Yoon from “Superstar K2″.

YG Entertainment also has a good history of never having any conflict regarding contract disputes with their celebrities. Top celebrities Big Bang and Se7en have extended their contract for an additional 5 years without raising any issues. This leads back to founder Yang Hyun-Seok’s business philosophy of putting the future and priority on the artists’ before the company.

In an interview with OSEN, founder Yang Hyun-Seok explained, “I’ve had countless offers to sell shares of my company through a backdoor listing, but I pushed them all away. I have no intention whatsoever of making profit through the stock market. My reason to have YG Entertainment listed publicly is because I accepted the management’s advice to make YG a transparent and global company“.

Another plus is that YG has always lead in philanthropy and good works. YG was the first Korean entertainment company to donate 500 million won (around $500,000) to Japan’s earthquake cause. YG entertainment has caught attention because they donated a large sum of money to Japan despite the fact that their artists’ promotion in Japan have been delayed due to the earthquake.

4.G-Dragon and T.O.P on Elle Girl Korea's "100 Idols" [NEWS]

Elle Girl Korea’s June Edition featured the top 100 idol members and evaluated them based on their skills (singing/performance) and fashion.

BIGBANG G-Dragon

A. He seems so comfortable on stage. He has talents in rap. His confidence is number one in the world. ★★★★★ -Kim Bonghyun

B. Something he has even more ingenious than his song writing skills is his style, the fact that he has style is a common sense now. Even his forehead is stylish, this stylish person. ★★★★★ -Kim Yoonkyung

C. He’s alright, with the help of Seungri and TOP. Worrisome if alone. He should be more prideful to be funny in talk shows. ★★ -Kim Yoon

D. I hope bad things will happen to him. He needs to find the balance point between Pride and Persistence. This is for G-Dragon’s own good.

BIGBANG T.O.P

A. None of the idol “rappers” are good. T.O.P is an exception. He is the beginning of the “proud rap” among idols. ★★★ -Kwon Eun-Kyung

B. He is handsome, but he wouldn’t have been this famous if he was a solo artist. ★★★ -Kwon Eun-kyung

C. Seungri can babble and G-Dragon can be stylish all they want, but they will never win over TOP’s bingu-ness. ★★★★ -Kim Do-Hoon.

D. But he’s so full of himself that he’s an actor now. You know you’re lame on the movie screens, right? -Kim Do-Hoon.

Only GD and T.O.P's "evaluation" are published on Elle's website right now so if you have a copy of the magazine and if you can share the other members' description, it would be very much appreciated :) A short bit on Seungri's from the magazine preview:

He is the member who is in the middle. He is a predictable member.

5.T.O.P not taking part in the new drama, "Our Joyful Youth" [NEWS]
Yoon suk-ho’s new drama, “Our Joyful Youth,” has been postponed to next year.

“Our Joyful Youth” was originally planned to air after “Spy Month” which features Lee jin-wook and Han Ye-sul this September on KBS 2YV, but recently Yoon Suk-ho PD asked KBS that he may be excused from this year’s line-up.

On the 9th, during a conversation with TV Report, Yoon Suk-ho PD stated that “many things are making the drama on September to be difficult, postponement is necessary for a better quality.”

The scriptmaker of “Kyu-Wool-Yun-Ka” and “Ka-Eul-Dong-Hwa” made a good script for this drama, but free production such as casting and scene hunting has been difficult and thus he turned to postponement.

Yoon Suk-ho PD stated, “I don't want to make a sloppy drama chased on time and disappoint the viewers. I am not used to 쪽대본 (means scenario not finished by the start of the drama. The scenarios are built as the actors go on. So the actors don't really know the ending of the story until they get there) and I’m not ready for it.” One personnel hinted that Yoon Suk-ho may be under pressure since this is a comeback after 5 years.

Regarding to casting, Yoon suk-ho stated that he “met with many actors including T.O.P,” but since he is postponing he should have to make an entirely new casting. His goal for now is to start filming this fall and air the drama beginning of next year.

“Our Joyful Youth” is a drama which includes scenes from Japan. The drama is of the love life and the work life of an attractive fashion photographer, and it is to have Yoon Suk-ho’s unique touch of calm storytelling and scene beauties.

Regarding casting, Yoon Suk-ho PD stated, “I met with many actors and actresses such as T.O.P and Ko Ara and asked if they were interested in taking part. However, what is the most important for me is the ability to focus on the drama as well as his/her acting skills. I wanted T.O.P, but he has to parallel the drama with Japan promotions which does not guarantee 4 days out of 7; thus, I sadly had to take him out of the candidate list."

6.Park Bom to sing in G-Dragon & Park Myung Soo’s joint performance for Infinity Challenge [NEWS]
2NE1’s Park Bom is making a special appearance in a song festival for MBC’s ’Infinity Challenge‘. According to a representative, the idol will make a surprise appearance on June 9th’s ‘Seohae Ahn Highway Song Festival’, held at a rest area in Chungnam.

Park Bom is preparing to sing a song for ‘GG‘, a collaborative unit between Big Bang’s G-Dragon and comedian Park Myung Soo. Titled, ’I’m Having An Affair‘, it was composed by G-Dragon, Teddy, and Kush.

How did Park Bom get tied into such an unusual event? Apparently, the songstress was around the studio when the song was being created, and decided to take part in its performance.

‘Seohae Ahn Highway Song Festival’ is taking place for the first time in two years; Infinity Challenge’s other song festivals were in 2007 and 2009.

The event will host other singer-comedian pairs, such as Yoo Jae Suk and Lee Juk, Gil and Bada, Jung Hyung Don and Jung Jae Hyung, Noh Hong Chul and Psy, Jung Joon Ha and Sweet Sorrow, and finally Haha and 10cm.
